Politicians coming out to contest for political positions, most times, feel they need the blessings of other politicians who have been in the game for a long time. Call it godfatherism. It is what it is.
When President Muhammadu Buhari was contesting in 2015, he was endorsed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. The endorsement by the former president shocked some people because it was a well known fact that Baba Iyabo wasn’t really feeling Bubu. But, to others, it was something they felt would happen as Obasanjo having some kind of issues with the then president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. They felt he (Obasanjo) had applied the saying “my enemy’s enemy is my friend".
However, immediate past governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has come out to say that there’s more to the story than Obasanjo trying to spite Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, although Obasanjo was feuding with Goodluck Jonathan, he wasn’t really keen on Buhari’s candidacy but changed his mind after he was begged by the latter in the presence of many witnesses. And that it also took the persuasion of some prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam and Senator Bukola Saraki.
