Yesterday felt like Christmas for most Nigerians. It seemed like a new day had dawned on the country. Neighbours, who were keeping malice, reconciled. Drivers had new gists to entertain their passengers with. Any corner you turned yesterday, you heard the news – Buhari removed service chiefs and appointed new ones.
This removal was long overdue as Nigerians had clamored for months. Even some All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts had advised Buhari to remove the service chiefs on the ground that they weren’t doing enough to curb insecurity in the country, but to no avail. At a point, it was said that the president was scared of doing so because he felt it would result in a coup.
Finally yesterday, the Chiefs of Naval Staff, Defence Staff, Army Staff and Air Staff were removed and other officers were appointed to replace them.
This removal and appointments made many Nigerians happy as a video showing naval officers rejoicing like there’s no tomorrow has gone viral.
@gentleojay, a Twitter user who was among the first people to post the video, shared it with a tweet;
“Just look at the Jubilation because the Chief of Naval Staff was sacked…Damn! The rejoicing when Buhari’s tenure comes to an end will be like carnival celebration”
Well, we hope the new appointments will bring positive results and we’ll see insecurity finally put in a coffin and buried.
