On Wednesday, October 20, officers from the Ogun State Police Command arrested three men, Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa, and Oluwatobi Michael, for allegedly beating one Tunji George to death over an allegation of stealing an iPhone 6.

The culprits were apprehended after one Bola George complained to the Onipanu divisional headquarters that her brother had allegedly taken an iPhone 6 from the Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, and that the deceased had been tortured to death in the hotel.

The suspects took the victim to the hospital after realizing that he was about to pass away, but the victim had already died before they arrived.

Following the complaint, CSP Bamidele Job, DPO Onipanu Division, organized his men and moved to the spot, where two of the suspects were detained, while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel where the crime was committed.

The suspects told the police that they had a strong suspicion that the dead was the person who stole the iPhone 6, and that in order to recover the phone from him, they decided to torture him, without realizing that it would lead to his death.

The victim’s body was taken to the main hospital mortuary in Ota for autopsy.

The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying that the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspects to be immediately transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

He also stated that the military under his supervision will not accept any type of jungle justice, and that anyone involved in such an act, regardless of status or position, will face legal consequences.
