The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed plans by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.
On Thursday, the Osun NNPP Chairman, Tosin Odeyemi, had expressed confidence in the party’s chances of clinching victory in 2026, citing the incumbent administration’s perceived shortcomings and the economic challenges facing the country.
He stated this during the inauguration of the NNPP’s offices in the Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun local government areas of the state.
“We in NNPP are optimistic about our chances in the 2026 poll. The current economic hardship is demarketing the APC at the federal level, while the PDP administration in Osun has shown limited capacity to improve governance. This gives us an edge as we gear up to end Governor Adeleke’s reign,” Odeyemi stated.
He urged party members to remain committed, assuring them of a bright future for the NNPP in Osun State.
However, Speaking to journalists, the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, said the NNPP’s claim was baseless.
He argued that the NNPP was simply trying to please their supporters, adding that the opposition could not stop the re-election of the governor.
“They are just trying to please their sponsors. The NNPP cannot stop the re-election of a performing governor like Senator Ademola Adeleke. The people of Osun will not allow anyone to derail the progress the state is currently enjoying,” Bamiji said.
