Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have ordered residents of Kukawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State to leave their homes by Saturday or face deadly consequences.

ISWAP’s order came just four days after a brutal attack on Tumbun Rogo community that claimed 15 lives.

A resident who fled to Maiduguri after receiving the threat shared his harrowing experience with Channels Television, requesting anonymity. According to him, ISWAP terrorists gathered community members on Thursday morning, ordering them to vacate their homes by Saturday or risk being killed.

The threat sparked an exodus, with some residents fleeing to Kross Kauwa and others to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, situated at Lake Chad, is renowned for its thriving fishing and farming industries. Despite being displaced during the insurgency, some communities were resettled by the Prof Babagana Zulum administration.

However, the area’s socioeconomic importance has made it a continued target for Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, who exploit its resources for survival and financial gain.

It was learnt that the Nigerian Army and Navy have a presence in the area, but the terrorists’ persistence has created a climate of fear and uncertainty.
