Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian dancehall musician, and three others have been held in police detention for one week after pleading ‘not guilty’ to a charge of circulating false information in the wake of reports that the singer was shot in Accra’s East Legon.

After being arraigned in court today, Shatta Wale and his accused collaborators, Kojo Owusu Koranteng, Idris Yusif, and Eric Venator, pleaded not guilty to accusations of publishing fake news and inciting fear and panic.

His alleged co-conspirators were also charged with assisting and abetting criminal activity. After being arrested on Tuesday, October 19, Shatta Wale and his entourage had already been imprisoned by police for two nights.

On October 26, 2021, the four individuals are expected to appear in court once more. Prior to his arrest on Tuesday, the musician apologized to his followers and those who were harmed by the hoax in a Facebook message.

Bishop Stephen Kwesi Appiah of New Life Kingdom Chapel had predicted that Shatta Wale would be slain on October 18, 2021.

Bishop Stephen Akwasi, the founder and leader of the New Life Kingdom Chapel, is also accused of inciting panic and anxiety following his prophecy regarding an upcoming attack on the ‘Kakai’ singer’s life on October 18th, 2021.
