A wave of panic has swept the air over the reported case of sporadic gunshot in the ongoing Ondo State election.

The incidence occurred at Polling Unit 11, Oke-Ijebu, Akure, the state capital and there has been no casualty reported.

INEC officials, media personnel, voters and onlookers were said to have scampered for safety and the election arena was deserted.

Confirming the shooting was the police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Lee Ikoro who said that the gunman had been apprehended and will soon be identified. He equally disclosed that more officers of the Mobile Police had been deployed to restore peace to the area.

This is not the first electoral violence happening this week. Earlier this week, there was also sporadic shooting by political thugs in the Ojanla junction of state capital, Akure where two people were reportedly injured.

Residents believe that the struggle for power is between the incumbent governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr Agboola Ajayi, incumbent deputy governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
