Nineteen traditional rulers, including district and ward heads from Sabon Birni Local Government Area in Sokoto State, have resigned from their positions to pledge allegiance to Senator Ibrahim Lamido.
This unprecedented mass resignation was officially announced on Tuesday and includes key leaders from regions such as Sabon Birnin Gabas, Tsilba, and Sabon Garin Danbaki.
The resignations follow the earlier departure of Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Bawa, the District Head of Sabon Birni, who stepped down on October 16, 2024.
In his resignation letter, Bawa indicated that his decision was motivated by a desire to align with Senator Lamido’s political agenda.
Prominent ward heads from areas like Magajin Dawakin, Dan Faru, and Zumbuli have also vacated their roles, expressing their commitment to Lamido’s vision for the area.
Alhaji Lauwali Shuaibu, ward head of Taka-Tsaba, remarked, “We have tendered our resignation letters but nobody invited us to hear our grievances.” He cited Senator Lamido’s proactive measures to support their communities, especially during bandit attacks, as a key reason for their shift in allegiance.
Another resigning ruler, Alhaji Jamilu Gwanda Gobir, the Ubandoman Sarkin Gobir, noted that their collective resignations were aimed at revitalizing the Gobir district, emphasizing that their positions are now open as they seek to back politicians committed to the welfare of the people.
