A Ghanaian lady was sentenced to prison in Takoradi, Western Region for faking her own kidnapping.

Joana Krah, 29, was sentenced to six years in jail by the Takoradi Harbour Circuit Court A on two counts of deceiving a public officer and posting false news on Tuesday, October 26.

Ms Krah staged her kidnapping on October 22 in order to collect $5,000 from a family member. According to police, she collaborated with two people to carry out the crime, following which she called her godfather and demanded the ransom.

On Monday, October 25, 2021, she was arraigned before the court presided over by Michael Kojo Ampadu after pleading guilty to the charges.

She was sentenced to two years in prison for publishing fake news and six years in prison for manipulating a public authority, bringing her total term to eight years in prison.

However, because both terms are to be served simultaneously, she will be sentenced to six years in prison.

Joana is a first-time offender with a child, according to the court, who took into account the fact that she cooperated with investigators and reported herself to the police when the situation was reported to them.
