Former short putter and world strongest man, Geoff Capes is dead.
According to reports from his family, the three-time Olympian is reported to have died at the age of 75.
Capes is known as a British short putter who holds the longest throw, which he set in 1980 with a distance of 21.68m.
He was also crowned World’s Strongest Man on two occasions, first time in 1983, and the second two years later.
In a statement, Capes’ family said: “The family of Geoffrey Capes would like to announce his sad passing today, 23rd October.
“Britain’s finest shot putter and twice world’s strongest man.”
Also reacting to the news of Cape’s death, British Athletics said on X; “We are saddened to hear the news of former British shot putter, Geoff Capes’ passing. Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this time.”
