A group of former lawmakers from the South-West states, who served in the botched third republic, have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances.

The Former Representatives, who met in Osogbo on Sunday, urged Tinubu to facilitate the payment of their entitlements for their service between 1992 and 1993.

Speaking on behalf of the group, John Fasogbon, who represented Ife Federal Central Constituency, explained that many of their colleagues have passed away due to lost hope, while others are struggling in poverty.

Fasogbon, who stressed their meritorious service to the country, appealed to the President, as a fellow member of their political set, to come to their aid and ensure the payment of their dues.

He also drew parallels with the recognition given to MKO Abiola and his running mate, Gana Kingibe, by the previous administration, and urged Tinubu to follow suit. While acknowledging the President’s achievements in his first year in office, Fasogbon is optimistic that the government’s policies would soon yield positive results.
