The Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside N104 billion to purchase generators, fuel them, and maintain them for its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
This is stated in the budget proposal for 2022, which the National Assembly has yet to approve.
The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, led by Zainab Ahmed, set aside N82.03 billion for generators, accounting for 80% of the total budget and making it the ministry with the largest generator budget.
When it comes to agencies, the Federal Inland Revenue Service has the greatest budget for generators, according to the budget. The agency set aside N250 million for maintenance, N1 billion for fueling the generators, and N550 million for purchasing new ones, totaling N1.8 billion.
The Nigerian Army has the second biggest generator budget, with N971.7 million set aside for generator fuel alone.
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, with a budget of N946 million, has the third largest generator budget.
In its offices in Sokoto, Kano, Makurdi, Yenagoa, Ilorin, and Umuahia, the Department of Petroleum Resources set aside N118.7 million for maintenance, N666.8 million for generator fuel, and N120 million for the procurement of generators, totaling N905.5 million.
The Nigerian Ports Authority has the fifth largest generator budget, with N798.2 million set aside for maintenance and purchase of generators.
