The Lagos State Police Command initiated a show of force on Tuesday to warn people preparing to hold #EndSARS memorial protests on October 20, 2021 in the state.

The organizers of the planned protests have announced that a car parade would be held in honor of those who are believed to have died during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.

The car parade will pass via Lagos’ Lekki tollgate, which was the epicenter of last year’s riots.

Lagos police warn against any form of protest:

Following the experience of the previous #EndSARS protests, the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Adekunle Ajisebutu, issued a statement a few days ago warning that the police would not hesitate to use all legal measures to prevent the protest from taking place.

According to him, “Lagosians and indeed Nigerians cannot afford to relive the distasteful experience of last year’s protest which caused pain, anguish, needless loss of lives and wanton destruction of public and private property.
“In view of the volatility of the present situations in the country and the breakdown of law and order which the planned protest might cause, the Lagos State Police Command sternly warns against any form of protest today.”
He added, “The command wishes to use this medium to warn the youth, groups or associations planning such protest to jettison the idea forthwith.”
