Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to a former Saudi intelligence official, ordered his killing and has held his children captive.

Saad Aljabri, a former Saudi government official, alleged the Crown Prince intended to kill him just weeks after the murder of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.

The Crown Prince is largely suspected of masterminding Khashoggi’s assassination.

Aljabri claims that the Crown Prince dispatched a murder squad to Canada to assassinate him in 2018, and that the Crown Prince has subsequently imprisoned two of his children, Sarah and Omar, in an effort to compel him to return.

When he and Saudi Arabia’s former crown prince, Mohammed bin Nayef, were accused of financial crimes in 2017, the former intelligence chief escaped to Canada.

Bin Nayef was removed in 2017 and replaced by Mohammed bin Salman, his cousin, who accused Nayef and Aljabri of stealing billions of dollars from Saudi firms.

It occurred after Aljabri filed a federal complaint accusing Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of attempting to capture and kill him in the United States and Canada.

According to Aljabri’s lawsuit, a ‘death team’ was deployed for him in Canada just two weeks after the same squad murdered Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018, but the attempt was prevented by Canadian border security personnel.

However, Aljabri is currently being sued by a number of Saudi companies. In March, the state-linked corporation Sakab Saudi Holding accused Aljabri of embezzling $3.47 billion while working for former Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef at the Ministry of Interior.

Mohammed bin Nayef was deposed as crown prince in 2017 by his cousin Mohammed bin Salman, prompting Aljabri to abandon the country. Nayef is currently imprisoned in Saudi Arabia.

The claimed assassination attempt will be discussed in an interview between Aljabri and CBS journalist Scott Pelley on Sunday, October 24.

‘Saad Aljabri is a discredited former government official with a long history of fabricating and creating distractions to hide the financial crimes he committed, which amount to billions of dollars, to provide a lavish lifestyle for himself and his family,’ the Saudi embassy in Washington said in a statement to CBS in response to the interview.

‘He has not denied his crimes; in fact he implies that stealing was acceptable at the time. But it wasn’t acceptable nor legal then, and it isn’t now.’
