It is often said that the testimony of more than two people cannot be wrong. Well, this is the case of the Governor-General of Canada, Julie Payette, who was accused by both former and present employees of making the workplace “toxic". A very intense word there.
The former Canadian astronaut, who has been the Governor-General since 2017 did not affirm nor counter the claim rather she said that she took the claim “seriously". She even added that no formal claim of harassment of employees had been reported during her tenure.
Anty had to step down after an investigation conducted by an independent consulting company, hired by the Trudeau government, showed that the claim might be true. Aside from creating a “toxic" environment, the investigation uncovered that employees were harassed and bullied and some even reduced to tears. This accusation was consistent with all the employees interviewed.
Although Mrs. Payette has not admitted that what she did was wrong, or even accepted to doing anything wrong, she, however, ended her statement on a civil note saying that “Canadians deserve stability in these uncertain times."
The next move now is for the Canadian Prime Minister to recommend a replacement for Mrs. Payette whilst the Canadian Chief Justice acts as the interim governor-general.
