Remember Bobi Wine who was placed under house arrest after the Ugandan elections on January 14? He has successfully counted ten days indoors before help came his way.
According to a statement by his lawyer, George Musisi, the Ugandan High Court has ordered the military to leave his residence. This is coming ten days after Bobi, his wife, Barbara, alongside her 18months old niece, had been held against their will since January 15 without food supply.
I know you’re already wondering if the baby made it to the tenth day without supplies. Relax. I’ll tell you ? From Wine’s interview with CNN, he confirmed that his wife’s niece was “safely evacuated" by lawyers who were allowed to enter the house briefly. Thank goodness!
Despite the order from the court, some soldiers are still loitering around his residence. His lawyer, Mr Musisi, has said they would petition the court for every uniform man found within or around the premises, and hold them in contempt.
Don’t forget too soon that Mr Wine was the primary opposition in the just concluded presidential election in Uganda. This attracted the not-so-good side of the longtime Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, who was later announced the winner of the election making it his sixth term in power.
But with the upliftment of the house arrest, Bobi is expected to convene with his team within the next 24hrs, to decide if to appeal the election results or not. He has till February 2 to appeal.
