Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar announced on Wednesday, May 22, that he intends to run for president in 2027.

In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), Atiku Abubakar confirmed his plans, which came just days after meeting with Labour Party (LP) flagbearer Peter Obi.

While he remained mum about the details of their meeting, his spokesperson Paul Ibe had previously hinted at a possible collaboration between the two politicians.

PDP chieftain Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar further confirmed the news on his X page, sharing a video.

However, he did not reveal who his running mate would be in the 2027 election during the interview. Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar said: “Good news to all Nigerians as the people’s favorite, HE. @atiku Abubakar confirmed that he will contest in 2027. “Are you ready to vote for the UNIFIER come 2027?”
