The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reportedly sacked over 200 employees, citing economic difficulties.

A senior bank official confirmed the development, stating that sack letters were issued to over 200 staff members on Friday, though the exact number remains unconfirmed. The Bank Official told Daily Post, saying: “Over 200 staff members were issued sack letters from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday.

However, the number of sacked employees is unconfirmed.”

The move adds to the 117 staff members dismissed by the apex bank between March 15 and April 11, 2024, affecting various positions including directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, principal managers, senior managers, and lower-ranking staff.

CBN had earlier redeployed 1,500 staff members from its headquarters to the Lagos office in February. It had cited the need to align the bank’s structure with its objectives and ensure a more even geographical distribution of talent.
