On Thursday night, October 21, a young Swedish rapper who had a number of chart-topping singles in the country was slain on the streets of Stockholm.
Einar, whose true name was Nils Kurt Erik Einar Grönberg, was shot in the head and chest near the port of Hammarby Sjöstad, according to reports.
Three months ago, rival rapper Yasin was sentenced to ten months in prison for masterminding a thwarted conspiracy to kidnap Einar in 2020.
In April 2020, weeks after Yasin’s failed attempt to lure Einar to a recording studio, Einar was kidnapped and held for several hours at gunpoint. In an attack involving another Swedish rapper, Haval Khalil, he was tied up and beaten in a flat.
While Einar was being held captive, the kidnappers uploaded images of him on social media, claiming that they sexually assaulted him in an attempt to humiliate him. In this case, no one was charged with sexual assault.
According to police, officers were alerted to a shooting at 10:50 p.m. on October 21, but paramedics were unable to save the victim, who died at the site.
Two persons were seen fleeing the site on Thursday night, according to local media. There have been no arrests.
Einar had recently received multiple threats, according to the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, and the Swedish public broadcaster SVT speculated that the murder was gang-related.
Prime Minister Stefan Lofven responded to the news of Einar’s death by saying: “It’s a young life that’s been lost, and I’m sure he meant a lot to a lot of young people. Another life has been lost, which is tragic."
Einar began publishing his songs to social media when he was 16 years old, and his breakthrough came in 2019 with the song Katten I trakten (The cat in the area).
The song was featured on his debut album, Första Klass, and reached number one in Sweden.
Första Klass, which has been listened to over 33 million times on Spotify, and Gamora, which has had 29 million listens, are two of his most popular tracks.
His most recent track, FAST HR I TRAKTEN, was released earlier this year.
